A workshop on 'Safe food, General Hygiene and Sanitary Practice' was organized by the Oriental Public School , I.G.C. Complex , Phase-III ,Kalyani, Nadia ,West Bengal on 9th August 2014 at the Conference Hall of the Oriental Public School, Kalyani. Altogether 190 Students and 100 nos. of Guardians , Teacher from as many as 15 nos. different Public Schools affiliated to CBSC and ISC besides the State Board fully participated at the workshop accompanied with their guiding teachers and parents. The prime object of the workshop was to make the students community aware of the need for awareness on safe food, general hygiene and sanitation with focus on safe food practices under the aegis of the newly enacted “Food Safety and Standards Act 2006” and the Rules & regulations made there under. As the students are the future citizens of our country, such awareness, if imbibed at an early age, when they are green at heart and can easily learn the basic things of a healthy and prosperous life in the days to come. Not only that, by learning the good practices of ‘what to eat’, ‘how much to eat’ and ‘where from to eat’, the students can spread the message of the day to their other friends, family and community in a multiplier effect. The work of the various regulatory authorities like the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) becomes easier and seamless once the future citizens are made aware of the need of practicing clean food devoid of any sort of food hazards and risk in the shape of biological, chemical or external cross-contamination whatsoever. The workshop was organized and shaped in consultation with the Food Safety And Standards Authority of India, Eastern Region Office at Salt Lake, Kolkata and the message from Shri Ais Kumar, Regional Head was read over at the start of the workshop. Shri P.Baidya from the said office gave an interesting talk with the students in an interactive session with a CD presentation on cartoon picture ‘Gini’ followed by ‘Quiz on Safe Food and Hygienic Practices’ with prizes to be owned. Other notable speakers of the workshop were Dr. Sukumar Kar Chairman , GERF , Dr. Asitava Sur, General Manager, Metro Dairy, Dr AK Bhattacharyya, Noted scholar-Food Expert and ex-Head, Food Technology Dept, Techno-India University, Dr. Sengupta, General Secretary, Red Cross Society, Kalyani, Dr. S.Islam, Asstt. Director, Animal Resources Dept. Govt. of West Bengal, Prof. J N Putatunda, Ex-Head, HR, TQM & Quality Services, Mother Dairy Calcutta and Shri Sanjib Raha, retd. DGM (HR), WBSEDCL. The welcome address was given Ms. H. Kaur, Principal, Oriental Public School, Kalyani who emphasized on the need for more such workshops in future so that good things can be spread amongst more and more number of students. Ms. Aditi Kar, Secretary, Oriental Public School wished the programme a grand success for the noble cause attached to it and lit the Lamp of the workshop. Shri Pabitra Banerjee, on behalf of the organizing authority, expressed that more such workshop shall soon be organized and seek whole-hearted support and co-operation from all concerned to make ‘Surakhait Aahar, Sasthate Andhar’. The workshop ended with happy notes of Mr. Aloke Mukherjee Vice-Pincipal ,Oriental Public School and the students of the School gave a nicely crafted mind blowing ‘Mime Show’ encompassing the basic lesions of the day’s workshop.
